Hush A Bye

Hush A Bye

Embroidery hoops, fabric. Belonging. Sweet shop excitement filling my head
with uncharted possibilities.
I am increasingly drawn
to the process of making and the documentation of that process within the practice.
The space, sitting, stillness, stitching,
interacting with fabric and thread, stiff, aching shoulders, sore fingers, swollen right arm (lymphoedema from
previous cancer) and exhaustion as light fails. Heightened embodiment of the practice.

I am exploring adult interaction with mobile phones and how this can disrupt shared times between parents and children. Hand stitching for the length of time my own phone reminds me my ‘average daily screen time’ is…. I quilt the motion of actions I regularly make on my phone screen. This came about after discovering  a performance piece ‘you are your phone’ by artist Viviana Troya.
